Torquay RACV Club Project
June 12, 2013Early in 2011 we were asked to tender for our largest commercial refrigeration project to date; the Torquay RACV golf course. It would become our biggest challenge, but ultimately our greatest triumph over those 2 years.
The result is by far the most striking feature in Torquay, Victoria today, inside and out. The resort caters for functions and large scale conferences for up to 1000 people in addition to the 92 accommodation rooms and suites with in house bars and a restaurant overlooking the golf course and beach.
Fitting out on of the biggest commercial kitchen setups in Victoria was a task we took great pride in fulfilling and so far the Kitchen and Maintenance staff at the Torquay RACV Golf club could not be happier with the result.
Downstairs in the ‘Spike Bar’, underbar refrigeration is a feature, brilliantly lighting up the bar from behind and creating a beautiful backdrop for the icy beer fonts, serviced by a state of the art remotely condensed glycol system. The ‘Spike Bar’ kitchen includes a general use coolroom and multiple stainless steel under bench fridges, all remotely condensed to a well ventilated plant room on the top services level prolonging the life of the compressors and keeping the kitchen and bar quieter than having standard stand alone systems.
The upper level restaurant whilst still using around 20 meters of underbars and 3 coolrooms, incorporates a freezer room, freezer well, upright stainless freezer, blast freezer and also a cold buffet servery to the mix.
Balancing all of these systems and providing practical refrigeration through any conditions was a challenge answered by the state of the art Bitzer Platinum condensing units located on the top level plant room. The Bitzer platinum incorporate inverter technology to allow the capacity of the unit to ramp up or down, depending on the load required. If only 20% of the kitchen requires cooling, the compressor would slow down to suit, saving energy and extending the life of all components.
The cold storage consists of 9 coolrooms and a freezer room all individually serviced by Kirby Nullabor systems. All rooms throughout the resort are set up in uniform to be Carel ‘MasterCella’ controlled pump down systems with personnel alarms and UV lights to inhibit bacteria growth.
All systems have been installed with efficiency and practicality in mind with ease of use and service a priority, whilst maintaining a showroom finish.
